Georges Urwald (1971) is a musician, arranger, composer and music professor at the Echternach high school. He studied school music (main instrument church organ) and jazz instrumental pedagogy (piano, drums and electric bass) at the ‘Staatliche Musikhochschule Köln’. He composes and arranges a wide range of genres for small and large ensembles, especially songs and stage music. He has been active as a pianist in many music groups (Muselfénkelcher, Les Salonnards, Garlicks, La Boca, Raquel Barreira Group, FLOTT, …) between classical and jazz, and currently sings and plays in the vocal quintet d’Cojellico’s Jangen, in the children’s project De Kapitän Mullebutz a seng Séisswassermatrousen, in the jazz quartet Charli Himmerot, in the Michel Clees group’ and plays drums in the blues rock band BRORD. He regularly refreshes the Luxembourg song heritage with new formats, whether in the form of editions of songbooks or piano booklets, or in the form of music projects such as the Lëtzebuerger Lidderflupp with a symphony orchestra or the duo Tonnar Urwald with radical reinterpretations of Luxembourg classics. For the Luxembourg National Library, he publishes, among other things, the didactic booklet on Luxembourgish culture De Litty and the Luxembourg songbook series De Georgely. Since 2008, he has been running the Stued Theater in Grevenmacher in the former workshop of his grandfather.
