Albena Petrovic Vratchanska is a Luxembourgish composer of Bulgarian origin and Knight of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (2013). She is also honored with the Silver Medal of Merit from the Union Grand-Duc Adolphe (2017), the Silver Medal from the Union Saint Pie X (2018) and the “2007 Cultural Prize” from the municipality of Hesperange. In 2007, she was a member of the jury of the “Valentino Bucchi” International Composition Competition in Rome, Italy. Recently the French Edition L’Octanphare published the book MY OPERA WORLD dedicated to her opera and vocal catalog, granted with ‘Bourse de documentation’ by Kultur LX Luxembourg. In 2025 in Bulgaria was published the book HIDDEN LETTERS-REVEALED DREAM by Iliya Gramatikoff with integral overview on her piano catalogue.
Born in Sofia, she got her Master in Composition and music writing in Bulgaria, Music Academy “P.Vladiguerov” in Sofia. Since 1996 she lives in Luxembourg and has her place among the Luxembourg artists.
Her catalog contains more than 600 works in various musical genres, including 9 chamber opera and monodrama opera. Some of her works are published by SCHOTT MUSIC International, Luxembourg Music Publishers, Editions L’Octanphare, Furore Verlag, etc. Her music is interpreted by many outstanding international artists and take part in many CD and radio recordings.
Her discography contains 6 monographic CD’s : CRYSTAL DREAM by label GEGA New and THE VOYAGER, BRIDGES OF LOVE, DREAMLOVER, SANCTUARY, ESCAPES by the label solo.musica.de, all with great success and acclaimed by the international press.
Albena Petrovic is President and Founder of the International Composition Competition “Artistes en Herbe” under the auspices of the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture. After its seventh edition, the Competition is unique in its kind in Western Europe – children of tender age can compete in the Junior category, and in the Senior category, adult composers are invited to compose music that will enrich the Education repertory for children.
